Workshop: Promoting Yourself and Your Research

Research involves a great deal of effort and time. After then, publishing the findings requires further time and effort. To help researchers on this path, WREN organized a workshop. In this workshop, you will discover strategies for:

• Developing a communication strategy
• Pitching your message to your audience
• How to make it accessible without dumbing down
• Dealing with media and using new media
• Developing your one-minute pitch
• Asking for what you want
• Using convincing language
• Self-promotion
• Networking, mentoring and collaborating
• Putting yourself in the spotlight
• Dealing with the discomfort of it all

The workshop will be conducted by Hugh Kearns. Kearns is recognized internationally as a public speaker, educator, and researcher. He regularly lectures at universities worldwide, including Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Berkeley, Stanford, ETH Zurich, and the Max Planck Group. In addition, he has coached individuals, teams, and executives in a wide range of organizations in the public and private sectors.
